Birmingham Phoenix Vs Welsh Fire, 12th Match
Welsh Fire has got off to the worst possible start in the Hundred 2022 tournament. It has lost both the matches it has played so far and is currently at the bottom of the standings. Its next match is going to be played against Birmingham Phoenix, a team that won its previous match quite convincingly and would be full of confidence.
Welsh Fire has not found the batting form that it would have expected at the start of the Hundred. Tom Banton, Ollie Pope, Joe Clarke, and David Miller form a pretty strong batting lineup on paper but they have not been able to combine together for any major runs so far.The bowling lineup is also quite weak. Adam Zampa is the outstanding bowler here and he almost always bowls an economical spell but the support around him is missing. David Payne, Jake Ball, George Scrimshaw, and Ryan Higgins are not going to worry too many top-class batting lineups.
Birmingham Phoenix flexed its batting muscles in the previous match as Will Smeed smashed a century, the first in the history of the Hundred, and was well-supported by the rest of the batters. Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone are capable of destroying bowling attacks and expect that to happen sooner rather than later. Henry Brookes bowled brilliantly to end with five wickets and he is certainly one to watch out for. Kane Richardson and Tom Helm were also very good in the previous match. We think Moeen Ali and Imran Tahir are also pretty effective in the shortest format making the Birmingham Phoenix bowling attack quite well-rounded.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
There is a bit of cloudy weather around but the chance of rain falling is low. The average score at this venue is 154 batting first and the average winning score is 165. This indicates teams need to aim for something around 160-170 to feel relatively happy after batting first. There were six 50+ scores hit at this venue in the Hundred 2021.
