Souhern Braves Vs Manchester Originals , 18th Match , The Hundred Men's Competition 2022
We have just passed the midway mark in The Hundred Men's Competition 2022 and things are beginning to get clearer as far as the qualification scenarios are concerned. This upcoming match between Southern Brave and Manchester Originals is to be played on the evening of 18th August 2022 at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Southern Brave made a terrific start to their title defense but the brightness with which they started began to fade off after they posted their first win. They defeated Welsh Fire in their opening game by a massive margin of nine wickets but have since then failed to find success. While Southern Brave have a pretty good limited-overs side on-paper, they have badly missed their execution plans. James Vince, their best batsman, has been too inconsistent, having played just one innings of substance from four matches. Their other hard-hitters in Tim David, Quinton de Kock, and Marcus Stoinis are yet to exhibit their skills. Their bowling, which was so good in the opening game, has struggled primarily due to the injuries. Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills are already out of the competition, leaving the Brave bowling attack in tatters. George Garten is already playing selected matches and it would be interesting to see if he takes the field in this match.
Manchester Originals have had a campaign precisely opposite to that of Southern Brave. They started off with three back to back defeats but a win over Welsh Fire in their most-recent match should boost their confidence coming into this match. Another win here will push them back into the reckoning and that is exactly what they will be aiming for. The likes of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler have done reasonably well up until now and a lot will depend on them for the Originals to do well here in this match. With the ball, it's been Sean Abbott leading the way for them. Overall, they have a terrific side with all bases covered and would want to get their execution right. A win in their previous match would certainly help them as well. If their stalwarts are able to come good in this upcoming contest, Southern Brave will have their work cut out.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
We have seen only a couple of matches played here at Southampton thus far and none of those turned out to be high-scoring. Having said that, batting does seem to be getting easier here and we might well see the best version of the surface in this upcoming game. The venue features fairly sized boundaries and a sporting surface, making it suitable for the batsmen as well as the bowlers. With the ball likely to stop a bit once old, spinners will enjoy bowling here with the older ball. Keeping all that into consideration, the team batting first would want to put a total of at least 160 runs on the board.
