The stadium hosted its first ODI back in 1975 when Australia took on the West Indies. Over the years, many riveting contests have taken place at Adelaide Oval, including West Indies' great escape from the proverbial jaws of defeat to beat Australia by 1-run in a Test match in 1993.

Redevelopment of the ground between 2008 and 2014 at a cost of $575 million that involved constructing two new stands at the Southern and Eastern sides of the ground have perhaps taken away the blissful facade surrounding the stadium. However, the Northern hill, iconic Moreton Bay Figs and heritage scoreboard still give you a feeling of nostalgia.

The Adelaide Oval nestled across the backdrop of magnificence of glorious gardens and swaying trees makes for a scenic ground.

What is a drop-in pitch?

A drop-in pitch is a cricket pitch which is prepared away from the ground or venue in which it is used, and literally "dropped in" to place for a cricket match. This allows multi-purpose venues to host other sports and events with more versatility than a dedicated cricket ground would allow.

How does the pitch play?

Generally, the Adelaide Oval is reckoned to be the best batting wicket in Australia. It plays very flat on the first three days of a Test match and as the match wears on it brings the spinners into the game. From 2013, Adelaide became host to the drop-in pitches.

The current BBL runners-up, the Sixers, will face the Strikers in each team’s first match of the new Big Bash League season.The Strikers managed to reach a respectable fourth place on the BBL ladder last year and even reached the penultimate Challenger match, where they were defeated by guess who… the Sixers.

Chris Lynn has signed to Play for the Strikers for only 11 Games as having Commitments to play in UAE later on. Alex Carey and Head will certainly bring lots of Experience in batting Lineup along with Lynnacity. Strikers has also added quality all rounders in the form of r Rashid Khan, New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme and England’s Adam Hose. Cameron Boyce will miss out due to calf Strain and could be a counterpart with Veteran Rashid Khan.

Losing to Perth in the BBL final last year has still got to annoy the Sixers, but the team will still be as good as ever this season. Captained by Moises Henriques, who has scored 2,340 runs for the team, the Sixers look formidable and it can’t hurt to have a generational talent like Steve Smith for at least a few matches. Phillipee , Vince and Daniel Hughes makes a solid base for the Sixers in Batting lineup . Hayden kerr took everyone by surprise in previous season with his All-Round heroics and Teams cannot take this young Guy Lightly.

There’s some anticipation building for Afghanistan spinner Izharulhaq Naveed as teams have not seen much him and this could really help the Sixers. Chris Jordan has also signed Sixers and could be a big Bonus as have been in good form and was part of a England World cup winning squad earlier this year. Dan Christian is another Veteran all rounder Sixers can back upon . Dwarshuis and Abbott will be other pace bowling option for the Sixers.
