Our Prediction
-
Welsh Fire are coming off a rather deflating win and might be running a bit low on confidence coming into this one
-
The availability of experienced versatile all-rounders in Sunil Narine and Sam Curran lend terrific balance to the Invincibles' unit
-
Oval Invincibles have a better-balanced side between the two, at least on paper
With the conclusion of the match between the Trent Rockers and Birmingham Phoenix, each team has played one match each in the 2022 edition of The Hundred Men's Competition. Based on the results and how they have performed, each team would know their further course of action. That said, it has been a refreshingly competitive tournament thus far and we expect this to get further more competitive as we move forward and teams start getting their combinations right.
The match between the two sides is to be played on 7th August 2022 at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Both these sides have some talented players available and a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
Welsh Fire had a terrible opening year (2021) of The Hundred's Competition and they haven't gotten off to a promising start this year either. In the only game that they have played, they are coming off a deflating defeat at the hands of Southern Brave, losing the match by nine wickets with Brave having 31 balls to spare.
Ben Duckett finished second in the run-scoring charts last year and it was surprising to see Welsh Fire finish at the seventh spot despite such individual brilliance. With Jonny Bairstow still not available, the onus will be on Ben Duckett to navigate his side through the over. On paper, Welsh Fire have an excellent side filled with some terrific strikers of the cricket ball. The likes of Joe Clarke, Tom Banton, Sam Hain, and Ben Duckett are all very capable and will be keen to deliver on the promise.
Oval Invincibles have some of the seasoned T20 campaigners available at their disposal and will be hoping to utilize their experience to maximum. The likes of Sunil Narine, Rilee Rossouw, and Sam Curran have played across the globe and would add to the experience of the camp. Other than them too, they have the likes of Sam Billings and Jason Roy who are both playing regular for England. It is the bowling that Oval Invincibles can trap their opposition with some excellent white-ball bowlers available. Sunil Narine has proven his worth time and again and will be a key member in the upcoming contest too. The likes of Sam Curran and Pat Brown would be useful at the death as they can take the sting out of any batting unit on their day.
