The Hundred 2022 has seen its teams being divided into two clear halves. The top 4 have all dominated and are bunched closely together while the bottom four could fall too far behind if they do not get their act together. This next match is between the Trent Rockets and the Oval Invincibles, both of whom have won three out of the four matches they have played.
The Trent Rockets ended up losing their previous match after a rare top-order failure. Both Hales and Malan were dismissed early to spin, a strategy that is no doubt going to be used against them more often in the future. The contest between the openers and Narine+Briggs is going to be very important. We saw Sams and Gregory get on top of the bowling even when the entire top order had been dismissed. With Munro, Cockbain, and Kohler-Cadmore also in the lineup, the Trent Rockets should have a massive advantage on the batting front. The Trent Rockets also have a good bowling lineup with Wood, Sams, Cook, Gregory, Shamsi, and Samit. These are all excellent bowlers with a lot of varied skills. Out of these, Wood and Shamsi would be the ones that we would back.
The Oval Invincibles continue to find ways to win even though their batting is a bit inconsistent. Jason Roy is having a horror of a time and England supporters would seriously be questioning his place as the first-choice opener. Will Jacks scored a century in the previous match and put his hat in the ring as a direct replacement for Roy. Rossouw, Billings, Jordan Cox, and the Curran brothers form a strong batting lineup but some of the major players are out of form and there is always a chance of a collapse. The bowling attack has done quite well for the Oval Invincibles. Sunil Narine has been among the best bowlers this season. His overs are always difficult to score off and he has been picking wickets as well. With Reece Topley, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, and Mohammad Hasnain, the Oval Invincibles have a lot of good options.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
The conditions in Nottingham are expected to be a bit cloudy but hopefully, there will be no major stoppages. The pitch is excellent for batting. The average score batting first here was 140 in 2021 but teams batting first will probably need to aim around 165 to have a good shot of winning.
