Our Prediction
-
The absence of Babar Azam could prove to be vital as he was a Match Winner for Somerset Along with s Tom Banton.
-
Essex will also be missing the Services of Dan Lawrence, who is currently on National Duty with England Side.
-
Both Teams have Quality All Rounders on their Side with Jimmy Neesham, Lewis Gregory and Ten Doeschate.
In the 3rd Match of the Opener Day of Vitality T-20 Blast 2021, Somerset will face off against 2019 Winners Essex at Cooper Cricket Association Ground in Taunton. Somerset is coming off a disappointed last season and will be looking to turn it around this time. While they finished fourth in the central group points table last year, their performance was far worse than that suggests. Most of their wins came on the back of some superb performances from Babar Azam and Tom Banton and the absence of Azam will be a huge void to fill for them. Devon Conway will also be unavailable till the WTC final. Tom Banton will be playing from the first Game which will be a big Relief for the Side. Lewis Gregory has gained plenty of experience since last year and will certainly hold the key to Somerset's fortunes in the absence of two stalwarts
Essex were the title winners in 2019, but their campaign was far from how it should have been for a team defending the title. They struggled to even qualify for the finals day and eventually finished fifth in the South Group. Essex has a terrific middle-order, at least on paper and would need the likes of Tom Westley and Dan Lawrence to fire. However, Lawrence is currently away on national duty and will not be available for at least a week. With Varun Chopra and Feroze Khushi, Essex's top-order seems to be a little under-powered. The likes of Ryan ten Doeschate, Adam Wheater, and Tom Westley manage to step up along with the bowlers, Essex Eagles could be a hard team to deal with.
