This PSL has been no less than a Roller Coaster ride soo far with Matches Going down to the wire. In the 18th Match of the Tournament Islamabad United will take on Quetta Gladiators at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Islamabad decided to use Usman Khawaja and Colin Munro at the top of the order in the previous match. It was not a bad idea but the slow nature of the wicket didn't work for the side. Rohail Nazar, Shadab Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Hussain Talat batted in this same sequence after the openers had departed. They have failed to score runs against Quality Bowling. Asif Ali, Faheem Ashraf, and Hasan Ali add a lot of depth to the batting lineup for sure. Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan and Fawad Ahmed forms a really strong bowling lineup that would be hard to get away.
The Gladiators have lost the services of Chris Gayle, Tom Banton, Dale Steyn, and Ben Cutting for this leg of PSL 2021. They have, however, added Andre Russell, Jack Wildermuth, Jake Weatherald, and Zahir Khan. The Quetta Gladiators have won just one match in PSL 2021 so far and the problem has been its batting. Apart from Sarfaraz Ahmed, no one has really been able to perform in the manner that the Gladiators would have liked. Faf du Plessis, Andre Russel, and Qais Ahmed could be the three overseas players that are preferred for the first match looking at the conditions on offer. The Bowling lineup looks a bit weak as Mohd. Hasnain was very expensive in the initial stage. Rusell can be used at death as he was effective in the recent IPL and this would also give an extra bowling option to the side.
PITCH REPORT
The conditions in Abu Dhabi are very hot. The start times have been delayed to try and make the playing conditions a bit more comfortable for the players but they will still challenge everyone. The pitch was very slow and difficult to score on in the first match. The Average Score is 150+ on this venue batting first.
TOSS REPORT
Every single Team that has won the toss has opted to field first in PSL 2021. While this may change if the wickets in Abu Dhabi get slower, for the time being, it appears as if fielding first is the preferred strategy for all PSL teams.
