Rishabh Pant scored his maiden Test hundred on the final day of the fifth Test against England at The Oval on Tuesday. Pant who made his Test debut in the third Test of the series at Trent Bridge reached the landmark in style, with a six, in 117 balls.
He's the fourth Indian to reach to his maiden hundred with a six after Kapil Dev, Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh.
It's also the first 50+ score for Pant in Test cricket. His previous best was the 24 not out that he scored on his debut, which would famously be remembered for the six he hit to get off the mark.
Pant slammed leg-spinner Adil Rashid for a six on only his second ball of the debut innings to become the first Indian batsman to open his Test cricket account with a six.
Meanwhile, Pant now also holds the record for the highest score for an Indian wicket-keeper in the 4th innings. Pant left former captain MS Dhoni behind to achieve the feat.
Dhoni held the record for the 76 not out he scored against England at Lord's in 2007. Dhoni's innings back then had helped India to secure a critical draw as they went on to win the series 1-0 under Rahul Dravid's captaincy.
This is also the highest Test score by an Indian keeper in England. The previous best of 92 was also scored by Dhoni at the same ground in 2007.
